Sadly, Chicago Comic Con is over this year
Gary
It was a great show. I'd like to thank those who visited the booth, it's always cool to meet people and hear what they think about the site, comics, GIMP (the program I use to make these), etc. This year the thing that surprised me the most was the number of people who commented on my using GIMP for this comic. I've used it to do almost all of my comics on this site (the really early ones didn't use GIMP, but before year one of the comic was done, it's what I used). For most of the first year, I sketched the comics out by hand, scanned them in and inked them in GIMP, now I do the whole thing in it. The only part I don't do in GIMP is the image reduction, that I do in paint.net, because I like the quality of its image reduction better. I tend to work about eight times the size of the final piece. This is so I can print a comic with only minimal (maybe one hour of work) clean up (if I did vector art this wouldn't be a concern, but I don't). This also allows me to "zoom in" to work on fine details, when I have to. Those who were at the show got to see some of this process, since I had an external monitor hooked up while I was working. It was acting as a clone, so people walking past the booth could watch. I'm not really an expert in GIMP, but I have been working in it for seven years now, so if there are those of you out there with questions about GIMP or webcomics or art in general (not really an expert in art, but I can tell you what others have told me), just shoot me an email. If it's something I can answer, I will, if it's not, I'll let you know that. Hopefully those of you who attended the show had a good time, and hopefully those of you who watched me drawing found it, at least, interesting. For the rest of the week, I plan to post sketches I did at or for the show. Some of them will be finished looking like today's, and others will be very rough, or scanned in versions of pieces I inked on paper. Enjoy.
